I was diagnosed out of the blue with unprovoked Pulmonary embolisms recently. The A&E staff were fantastic with my diagnosis. I was then passed onto the Anti Coagulant clinic for my aftercare. Unfortunately the 'blood thinning' tablets I am on in conjunction with other factors have caused my periods to go from 4 days to 14 days of constant heavy bleeding each month, so much so that I am now anaemic and Im having to have regular blood tests and medication changes until such time I can have a hysterectomy. During the past 2 months I have struggled to get help and information from my GP and my Gyny regarding treatment, medication, advice. I have basically had to fight and pester for any bit of help I needed.
However, my life line for support and medical help has come in the form of the specialist nurses at the anti coagulation clinic and my consultant haematologist. They have not only listened to my constant questions, complaints and yes, tears of frustration, they have always called me back with answers to my questions, offered advice and have even called me 'adhoc' to see how I am doing. With their intervention in lets face it, a department that they don't specialise or work in, I finally have a treatment plan in place with my Gyny and follow up appointments with themselves. Without these nurses and now my consultant, I would have simply 'gone under' and no doubt as well as every thing else would now be being treated with depression! they really have kept me going with their on-going support through out what can only be described as a living hell. I can not thank them enough and will continue to do so whilst I am under their care.
