"Ambulance Visit with 10 Year old Son"

About: King's Mill Hospital

I was unfortunately enough to visit this A&E Dept on Saturday Night.

I called an ambulance after my Son had a Febrile Convulsion and would not come round.

As his Temp was over 40 they advised taking him to the hospital, Kings Mill being the nearest.

While I know Saturday nights are usually busy with people who are under the influence and such like, I would have thought a 10 year old would have been separated from such sights.

When we arrived we stayed in the corridor for 45 mins, the ambulance person waiting a further 45 mins to hand over care to hospital staff (its no wonder there are no ambulances, they are all waiting to be seen at hospitals).

Once handed over, my son had his temp taken, blood pressure & told the Dr would come and see him.

We waited another 2½hrs for a Dr to briefly come in, ask the same questions as the nurse, not even examine him then say they needed to talk to Pediatrics.

Another 1½ wait before they came to (attempt) to take some blood and told us we would get an outpatient appointment; oh and we could now go.

This is a 10 year old, in adult A&E listening & seeing all the sights that go with it, little or no privacy, no care or discussion, no involvement in his care.

He had spent over 30 mins unconscious and they weren't in the slightest bit interested.

In the 6 hrs we were there we saw 2 people one Nurse & one Dr, for a total of approximately 15 mins & weren't told anything.

In addition there was broken equipment in the communal unisex toilet making it difficult to enter/exit, there was urine all over the floor/seat the dept was dirty with visible rubbish on the floor.

You might not enter with an infection but you could certainly leave with one.

Having worked for this hospital previously I was disgusted to see how the patients/public are dealt with.
