Safe care - definitely not

effective care - barely

Well led - no evidence of leadership at all

Compassionate care - no evidence of understanding of the meaning of compassion

ED conveyor belt mentality – complete absence of nursing care

Ambulatory care - chaos - no knowledge of patients, or their whereabouts.

76 year old man admitted to ED presenting with chest pain.

No analgesia given

No cardiac protocol followed

ECG took two and a half hours to be carried out

No chest X.ray at all

Doctors ‘forgot’ to carry out essential D. Dimer checks for possible life threatening condition.

Doctor disappeared for half an our during initial assessment returning to inform patient and relative they had been off the unit.

Nurses informed relatives that patient was in Xray – there never was any xray – the patient had actually been discharged.

No information given to patient or relative on discharge.

Care of other patients witnessed to be sub optimal – old lady left in night clothes with no shoes on, was very cold and another relative went to collect blankets to keep her warm. A male patient who had vomited on the floor in ED had to clean up his own vomit!

Worst NHS experience ever; would have been appalled at this standard in a field hospital.

CQC got it wrong; emergency care here does not need improvement; it is woefully inadequate and needs taking apart and rebuilding in order to provide any level of focus on quality, safety and patient experience.
