Arrived at the RDH on 090116 and feel I must comment on the experience. Journey started with local GP followed by NHS direct and arrived at RDH via walk in centre at Osmaston Rd Derby after referral phone call. On arriving at RDH I was seen by staff within a very short time, you read of long queues and sitting around for hours but this was certainly not the case for me. I was attended by a consultant and their team who were all pleasant, polite, professional, helpful and of a positive manner, sometimes if I’m worried or nervous about something I tend never to shut up talking or make really bad/corny jokes – some of which even got a sympathy laugh which was appreciated!
After the initial examination it was explained that I would be staying in and what would happen next which was a CT scan.
Again this did not take long to arrange and again all staff involved were as already mentioned. The following morning I underwent surgery for a groin abscess after which I transferred to ward 309 until 140116 when discharged. I had further surgery on 120116 also. The staff of ward 309 were excellent, everyone that I met had a smile on their face, all were again extremely helpful and I couldn’t have wished for better care. All the nurses that I met were great, cleaning staff were welcoming, the staff that serve drinks and arrange meals were jovial, the people who take you to theatre and back were chatty and pleasant and the arrival of the league of friends treat trolley was always a welcome sight (I called it the Wonka trolley with all the chocolate on there). It seems a strange thing to say but I would recommend anyone to visit the RDH or at least not worry about doing so after my experience. People are often quick to criticise and slow to praise, it’s human nature I suppose and that is why I wanted to post feedback on my stay, I know I’m only thanking people for doing their job but it’s the way the staff at the RDH do it that stands out. Nothing was too much trouble, any questions that I had however many times they’ve been heard before were answered and at every part of my stay I was kept fully informed of what was happening, probable timescales and procedures that would be done – this to me was extremely helpful, important, reassuring and supportive. After care was explained before I left so I knew what to do when I got home and medications were also explained to me. Your staff in every department should be commended as to the work they do and in the manner in which they do it.
