"unhelpful service"

After a visit to my local doctor with bad bleeding from back passage was refered to woodthorpe hospital saying they would be able to look into problem further and give some advice on what to do (having previously had a colonoscopy and took results to show hospital doctor ) the "specialist " looked at the results, ask the obvious quiestions and said you need to go have another colonoscopy. No examination was given and no advice was given. After wiating 10 days for the woodthorpe appiontment and now having to wait again for an appointment to come through the post for another colonoscopy appiontment i am upset that we still have no explanation as to what might be wrong and think all this waiting time is rediculas and fustraiting. I am writing this on behalf of my husband because i can see how upset he is thinking he would have been getting some help and possibly result from our visit and we came home with nothing.

Response from Nottingham Woodthorpe Hospital

Dear Relative,

Thank you for leaving feedback on NHS Choices on behalf of your husband.

The Consultant would always need to see a patient in clinic initially to decide the next steps and in this case would have requested a further Colonoscopy to ensure he/she had latest information available to support a diagnosis and agree a treatment plan.

When you are referred to any hospital providing NHS care you time from referral to treatment can be as long as 18 weeks for the majority of pathways, Woodthorpe Hospital has some of the shortest wait times for

Consultations, diagnostic tests, and surgical procedures in the Midlands and a wait of 10 days would be considered very short indeed. I am sorry you felt this was too long to wait.

I would be more than happy to deal with your complaint on a more formal basis should you wish to contact me directly.

Kind regards

Mark Lacey
