What I liked
The ward was spotless and the handwashing by the staff was exemplary. I was kept fully informed about my treatment and found all of the medical staff to be friendly and informative. My treatment was as they said it would be and now I am 1005 better and VERY happy with the result.
What could be improved
Discharge - I was kept waiting for several hours for my discharge medication - this significantly delayed my journey home, a journey that was always going to be uncomfortable due to the surgery that I had had. This made it a lot worse
Anything else?
The ward I was in backed onto a delivery area - and the noise was terrible, with banging and crashing - even the walls and floor shook - which went on until 2am. When I complained to the nursing staff they were sympathetic and frustrated themselves - their own complaint had not been dealt with by hospital management. Sleep is a vital part of a patients' recovery - our bodies repair themselves overnight, so sleep is as vital as good nutrition and medication and surgery. There is no need to have deliveries going on so late into the night - and late deliveries past 9pm, should be turned away. Most hauliers and suppliers do timed deliveries - my husband does this sort of work.
On the same ward, during the night another patient was very ill and the ward lilghts were switched on - for the WHOLE ward!!! it seems that although this ward is a modern build there is only one switch for all of the lights for the ward, they can't zone areas of the ward. So everyone was disturbed and woken up. This is absurd inthe modern day.
Of course I was glad to go home - not least because I was exhausted from lack of sleep. Thank heavens I only had two nights there, other patients are in for substantially longer.
