Having had increasingly painful ear ache for 3 days, by Saturday it had got really bad (I work in London and seeing a doctor is not very straightforward). I called 111 and spoke to a very polite, kind voiced young Lady who went through the process of listening to what was wrong with me, going through her questions (having explained that they might sound silly under the circumstances, but that there was a reason for them). At the end of this she told me that I would have to see a doctor - I would hear from someone in the next 24 hrs.
Within an hour, I had a phone call from the outpatients receptionist at the Eastbourne & District General Hospital and in less then an hour I saw a lovely Staff Nurse (Shirley) who inspected my ear and gave me prescription for some antibiotic tablets and an antibiotic spray. These days, the NHS gets such awful press and I have to say that my experience of 111 was outstanding.
"Outstanding help with painful ear infection"
