"Poor care"

About: University Hospital (Coventry)

Whilst suddenly rushed to hospital I spent 5 days on ward 33 I found a couple of the staff nurses to be rude. One nurse left me crying in pain when I asked for pain relief, after waiting 45 min crying out I managed to go to nurses station where the nurse who was looking after me could see I was crying in pain and having done my obs my heart rate was 119 and blood pressure elevated due being in pain, she said this was normal! I again asked her for some pain relief and she said she would yet 5 min later she was still taking to other staff at the nurses station about holidays! In the end I went back out to her and said if you can't get me some medication due to your discussions about your holidays please can you get your matron to get me something, she gave me a dirty look and then went and got me the medication. During this stay she looked after me 3 times and was very cold towards me and patronising, even when taking my catheter out she did not wash her hands or talk to me about the procedure just stating that doctor told her to take it out and when you need to go pass urine, wee in the pots in the bathroom and let someone know so I could have a bladder scan and left, when approached her after I passed urine she did not bother coming back for a good hr to do this. During the night I also vomited and felt unwell I asked another nurse who was looking after me for something to stop me being sick, she said in order to do that I have to show her I've vomited and because I went to the toilet she couldn't see that I had even though the other ladies in my bay rang the buzzer after hearing me! It felt like she thought I was lying, after having nothing to stop the vomiting about half hr later I did the same but instead had to do it in the bowels to physically show her and only then did she give me some intravenous medication! I felt belittled and upset by the treatment of both nurses. The support workers were fantastic and a real credit to the ward, nothing was too much trouble for them, my team of doctors were amazing and explained everything about my treatment. Just very sad that these professional nurses could treat a patient like that and if further problems developed I would not come back to this hospital for treatment due to them nurses, I would travel to another hospital a real shame as I could not fault any other nurses and staff who were all very professional and caring and a credit to the ward.
