"Messaging service not fit for purpose"
Posted by Anonymous
We do not visit the clinic but district nurses (who are usually very good) are based at Caryl Thomas clinic, do home visit blood draws on a terminally ill and very unwell family member
The messaging service for the district nurses is not fit for purpose. Nurses come to do home blood tests when we are not expecting them and do not turn up when they are due to take blood for eg INR . This lack of organisation is a waste of resources as well as dangerous. For example
Recently some extra blood tests were requested by the GP and despite faxing several times, the GP fax did not get through to Caryl Thomas clinic. The Caryl Thomas messaging service administrators told me on the phone that extra blood would not be taken at the same time as the INR unless there was also a fax request, even when we had the blood form at home and fax had been attempted several times. I assume they can view the GP notes via the UK computerised health system?
The problem was only resolved when the GP surgery fax eventually managed to get through and I said I would contact the Care Quality Commission.
