"Very disappointing"

About: St Peter's Hospital (Chertsey)

It was my first pregnancy, I did my research, and St Peter's seemed like a good choice. I went in with a positive attitude but to keep a long story short I came out feeling extremely let down by the care I received on the labour and post-natal wards.

There were exceptions and some staff members were excellent, for example the midwife in the Abbey Birth Centre was extremely competent and professional. However it came to light there were complications not spotted until the labour/late pregnancy (which should have been spotted by the community midwifes) so I was transferred to the labour ward.

The labour ward was short-staffed, the doctor was rude, uncommunicative, and made a serious error which caused me considerable distress.

The rooms in the labour ward were too small for the equipment needed. Scanners on the labour ward are 20 years old and don't work properly.

Post-natal ward is busy couldn't get any rest, moved to a private room which was poorly maintained, had wires hanging out of the wall, and night light didn't work so had the main light on all night for feeding. Some staff were excellent but it really varied as to who you got. Some gave totally different advice to others when it came to advice on feeding (my baby had tongue tie), and openly disagreed with information given to me by a pediatrician.
