My daughter recently gave birth to twins in Colchester General. The support and care she received prior, during and after the birth was very good until it came to being discharged. My daughter just wanted to get home to her family and a good night sleep in her own bed. I arrived to collect her at 4.30pm having been informed by the midwife that would be great as it would give them time to complete the paperwork and for the doctor to check the boys and my daughter over and give them the all clear to be discharged.
On my arrival she still hadn't seen the doctor as one doctor has to cover all three departments of maternity and had been called away. She returned after an hour and completed her checks and now the midwife had to complete the paperwork.
We eventually left the ward at 9.10pm as the midwife again kept having to answer calls from other patients on the ward disrupting her which she clearly could not ignore.
My daughter was very distressed and anxious by this time and a very happy time ended in her having a very negative unhappy experience.
