Admitted to Victor Horsley ward for icp monitoring. Nursing Staff were fab, kind caring and very helpful. However, some staff just seemed to be rushing all the time. I felt that I never had time to speak and explain how I was feeling before or after procedure.
Had icp removed which absolutely killed me. I was given no further information about what I could or couldn't do ie at an earlier appointment, it was mentioned not flying for 6 weeks, but nothing said at all. No plaster was applied to cover stitches, so infection could get in. Nothing mentioned about having stitches out. Communication was awful.
I asked to see a staff member, but this was a battle every day for 5 days. I felt that some staff just wanted to get rid of me. I did not feel well enough and was in so much pain that my husband refused to take me home.
Every day a different excuse as to why I could not see staff. Never any consistency and I felt that no one wanted to listen.
I cannot believe that I was treated so badly. I was very traumatised by the whole event and really thought do I ever want to return.
After all our protests I did eventually have an appointment, but I experienced a staff member who was very arrogant and stuck up. However, staff did sit and spoke with me and explained about the new treatment plan and I felt a lot more satisfied.
What is it with some staff not listening? How can they make you better if they don't have time understand your problems. Too many staff these days being left to cope and under pressure that this rubs off on patient.
Would I return to the ward? Yes I would but under another team.
