"Thanks to the incredible team at the PICU"

Our new-born son underwent an arterial switch operation at the Royal Brompton in November 2015.
He was diagnosed with TGA at the 20 week scan, and ever since that day, the staff, level of care and communication from the Royal Brompton have been first class.
Our fetal cardiac care nurse and fetal cardiologist made sure we were aware of the facts of his condition, made themselves available to answer any of our questions, and made sure we were prepared for what was to come after his birth.
The nurses and doctors (too many to name!) at the PICU were very friendly, very competent and knowledgeable and showed a lot of care for us and our son.
They made us feel very involved and helped us bond with him whenever possible.
The nursery nurses provided incredible support for mum and were always on hand to help us establish feeding for our son (who is breastfeeding very well now).
The surgical team were exceptional.
They were very approachable and showed a lot of care, kept us well informed of the procedure and risks, and checked back regularly post-op to keep a close eye on our son’s recovery.
In our first check-up following discharge, the consultant noted that the outcome of the surgery was outstanding.
We were also very grateful to the hospital for making accommodation available to us during his stay, which helped us stay close to our newborn and bond with him whenever we could.
Congratulations to the hospital for putting together such a great team and for a well run department!
