Upon visiting this lady I was shocked at her appearance and suggested we should go to A&E so that they could at least rehydrate her.
When we were seen by the doctor the doctor was unhelpful suggesting that only old people who could not eat would get a drip. That my friend, who has not eaten for three weeks should go home, have something to eat and see her GP. The doctor did suggest that my friend wi as depressed but offered no further help.
My friend asked for something to help get her back on track. The doctor repeated that only old people have drips. My friend has been living with cancer for 9 years and just required a helping hand at this low point.
We met the nurse who had done the original assessment and the nurse seemed shocked that the doctor had done nothing to the extent that they went into the doctor to clarify the situation. When the nurse returned they said the doctor had discharged my friend.
It would have been nice to have received more reassurance and positive information about where to seek the help needed.
