On Tuesday I fell and hit my eye socket on a stone step so my wife took me into A&E at about 5 p.m. By this time I was dripping blood on the floor but they immediately ushered me into a cubicle and cleaned the wound and supplied pads. Very shortly, a nurse practitioner attended and took great care in stopping the bleeding (which was quite difficult) and stitching the wound. Other lacerations were glued.
The nurse practitioner then arranged an x-ray and that was carried out almost immediately. When they reviewed the x-rays they were satisfied that there were no obvious breaks but there was possibly some damage to the sinuses. They immediately arranged an appointment three days later with a facial consultant at another hospital. After advising me how to get the stitches removed and wishing me a Merry Christmas I was discharged.
The whole procedure took less than two hours!
Thank you to the nurse practitioner and thank you all the other staff who helped (including the cleaners who wiped up the blood.) A superb service which couldn't be bettered.
"Thank you A&E"
