"Waiting Area"

About: Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital

I visited this hospital one evening recently and was appalled to see in the general waiting area, a very elderly lady hunched up in a wheel chair wearing night clothes. Is this an advancement in care? Surely we can do better than this?

Please don't say the person who brought her in should have dressed her, they would not have expected her to wait in this area for what could be several hours.

Dear Sir / Madam,

I agree with you. I can fully appreciate why you found this distressing to observe. Whilst I dont have any more details of the patient or the night in question, I am sorry that we didnt take an opportunity to protect this ladies dignity and ensure she was sufficiantly warm whilst waiting to be seen.

I have shared your review with the emergency care team for discussion at their next governance meeting. Thank you for bringing it to our attention - when the service gets exceptionally busy it is essential that we don't lose sight of the things that matter.

With all best wishes,

Annie
