"Referral back not accepted by the clinic"

Having been recently referred back to ICS for ongoing mental health issues. I have been refused site access and only home based treatment.

On the first referral back although not happy I thought I would try home based treatment.

I had to stay at home waiting for my time allocation, had numerous different people visit me over the 2.5 weeks lacking in consistency of care.

Having been referred back last week following a visit to hospital and again today 10th November I have again only been offered home visits.

The reason I have been given is that I formed some unsuitable friendshops when I was treated on site.

I have been given no other reason.

I have 2 friends who I remained in contact with since May.

We are extremely supportive of each other, however the team only see the bad never the good that comes out of these friendships.

Without the continued support on all sides from the three of us we would be much more unstable and there is even the strong possibility that 1 or more of us would not still be alive today.

We are all at roughly the same point of diagnosis and transfer to the personality disorder network so all understand each other difficulties.

If ICS do not want people to form friendships/peer support then there is an issue with the whole set up.

Why exactly are they there. 2.5 weeks everyone is supposed to see a psychiatrist at least.once, numerous service users dont.

When I was there I only got to see the physiatrists because I initially asked to and then to be told off like a child, not supported through.my difficultit's.

Maybe not going back could be a good thing but after 3 failed suicide attempts in 1 night ICS has been the only support I have been offered with the exception if my CPN and limited but very good support from the PD network as I have not formally transferred over to them yet.

Thank you for posting your comments on NHS Choices.

I am sorry to hear that you feel you have had a negative experience of your recent ICS contact.

Please be assured that the team aim to provide a personalised menu of interventions which are specifically designed to meet service user's individual needs. The decision to offer home or unit based treatment or a combination of both is made following an assessment of need taking into account historical information along with the most up to date clinical information and service user preference.

My understanding is that you were offered a combination and invited to join specific groups on the unit that were thought to be helpful to your current difficulties taking into account your concerns and wishes.

Home based treatment is very effective in helping service users manage their own mental wellbeing and recovery. Service users are offered specific appointments which are usually integrated into a weekly plan designed to support independence and a good occupational balance.

The team recognise the value of peer support as an important element of recovery and offer peer support sessions in partnership with Leeds MIND.

Sometimes depending on the cohort of individuals on our caseload, peer support can create additional risks or challenges for some vulnerable individuals and where this is occurring the team will discuss this in an open and honest manner as part of the interventions delivered.

An appointment with a psychiatrist is not offered to all service users especially if they have recently been reviewed and again this assessment is made on an individual basis.

If you would like to discuss the issues you have raised in more detail please do get in touch with me via our PALS team on 0800 052 5790 or via email on pals.lypft@nhs.net

With Kind regards
