"Being elderly I require a number ..."

About: Royal Free Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

Being elderly I require a number of out-patient consultations, investigations and treatments and find the care I receive is of a very high standard. I greatly value the professional care and attention my family and I receive from the various consultants concerned.

I am pleased by the increasing number of medical procedures now being carried out on an out-patient basis, using the Hospital's day-care facilities, and thereby not requiring any in-patient hospital stay.

What could be improved

Car Parking facilities. It is almost impossible, despite being disabled and so a holder of a Blue Badge, to find a parking space within the Hospital grounds.

Response from Royal Free Hospital

Thank you for taking the trouble to send us your comments. We’re delighted you found the care and attention so good and have passed the message on to the relevant teams.

As far as car parking is concerned, the Royal Free is located very close to the centre of London and we have a limited number of places available in our car park.

You will be pleased to hear that once our building project at the front of the hospital is completed early next year, we will be reallocating a significant number (around 20 or so) blue badge car parking spaces. These will be located immediately in front of the hospital’s main entrance. This is in direct response to our patients' comments.

We really do understand the frustrations car parking can create for central London hospitals and find it difficult to understand how patients visiting some other neighbouring hospitals possibly manage, when the hospital provides no patient parking.

You may be aware that the national planning requirements place a responsibility on us to discourage use of private cars and we constantly champion the patients' cause during these travel discussions. However it does prevent us from increasing the overall capacity of the trust's car parking provision.

However in light of your comments, we will consider how support can be made available to visitors who may not have assistance available, when visiting the hospital.
