Today I experienced the very busy radiology department at the Royal Berkshire Hosptial. I must say, despite the very busy waiting area and clearly staff under pressure I can honestly say this had no effect on my fantastic care. Arriving in the department around 12.15 the staff on the front desk checked my partner in, they were extremely busy and dealing with a patient on a stretcher who had appeared to arrive unexpectly. We were given an approximate wait time of an hour!
The waiting area was very busy however within a few minutes of sitting it became clear that we would not be waiting an hour. We were in, out and back to the car within 40'min of being checked in. Accompanying my partner into the room the radiographer was so apologetic for the waiting time (at this point the queue has almost disappeared) and made my partner quite at ease as he had been rather nervous.
On leaving I noticed the patient on the stretcher had been moved to a comfortable bed, with a team of two staff and paramedics. I want the department to know how fantastic I think they were dealing with what was clearly a busy day, and I only noticed a few faces suggesting there was not many staff around!
It would have perhaps been nice for a sign or notice board, but I did notice a poster suggesting it was being looked into.
Car parking, was as always appalling.
