"Miscarriage care"

About: East Surrey Hospital / Maternity Surrey and Sussex

(as the patient),

Diagnosed with PCOS a few years back. Found out I was 6+3 weeks pregnant. Eventually able to make doctors appointment as PCOS have higher rate of miscarriage he refused to test my blood or check my progesterone levels despite my want to do so.

Miscarried at 7+6. Local EPU were kind but wanted to do blood tests to check HcG was falling. It didn't fall fast enough so had to have tests every 48 hours 3 times. As the third time was on a Sunday nobody called to tell me results. I contacted them on the Tuesday to very blunt replies.

During miscarriage EPU said they would cancel all my appointments however received a call on what would have been week 9 from midwife asking why I had failed to attend an appointment and when I can rebook. During this distressing time calls like that knock you back big time.

Dear Carlper,

We are really sorry to hear that you have miscarried and that your experience in our EPU has not been satisfactory. We routinely carry out BHCG tests on a Sunday. These are reviewed by the Doctor and you should have received a call back with the results. We are very sorry that this appears to not have happened with you.

Pregnancy loss information is circulated daily from the EPU to notify both the scan department and the midwifes if a patient has miscarried. We are very happy to look into the communication regarding your case if you wish to contact us with more details. Our email address is Early.Pregnancyunit@sash.nhs.uk.

Kind regards

Lynda Filby
