Our daughter needed hospital care when a virus struck and she was taken to the GP who had concerns about her presenting as dehydrated. It was a shock to realise how unwell she had become within 24 hours of the onset of presenting as unwell.
We were offered a choice of hospital to attend and chose Barnsley General Hospital where we were admitted to the Children's ward 37. The nursing staff were fabulous with both our daughter and us. They explained what they were doing step by step to both us and her and alleviated anxieties.
It was evident that the NHS were stretched and the staff did their best to attend to us when we needed it most. Interactions between staff and patients were positive with lots of smiley faces and warmth to all. Each patient was treated with respect and all concerns shared felt validated.
Generally we felt safe and looked after throughout our stay.
