I really wanted to write and congratulate the James Paget University Hospital on several levels...
My mother, Jean Robson has been in JPUH since she collapsed on Saturday August 29th. Following lengthy investigations and liaisons with Addenbrookes, her condition of a Thalamic Tumour was deemed to be untreatable, but it wasn’t for the lack of trying to find a suitable course of treatment. She spent the first few days in EADU surrounded by a great team before moving to Ward 16.
Without exception I found the staff throughout the hospital to be extremely helpful, the food great and in the information boards excellent. But where I would like to pay particular thanks is to the team on ward 16 that have looked after Mum (and indeed looked after my sister who has been at her bedside 12 hours a day for the last 4+ weeks).
I would firstly like to thank the doctor for his expertise, care and compassion. He has been very willing to discuss things with us as time has gone on, and has helped us in securing an end of life placement in a local Nursing Home. I would just like him to know that my sister, wife and I really appreciate all he has done for Mum (and us) and thank him for his frank and informative discussions – sadly I don’t have an email address for him so I would appreciate it if someone could pass on our thanks
I would like to pay tribute to all the staff and management of ward 16, from the excellent nursing team to the HCA’s and also the cleaners and people that bring the tea and coffee! Everyone has made us feel welcome and the professionalism and care is second to none. It is truly the best managed and motivated ward I have ever had the pleasure to visit (I speak with some experience as a Shropshire Care Home owner, married to an ex-nurse who spent 9 years at board level NHS and with a Vascular surgeon as a brother–in-law and a colposcopy doctor as a sister-in-law). Could I also mention the Charge Nurse (I think that is his title) who helped us through the shock of the early diagnosis and investigations.
I notice from your boards that you have ‘star’ awards and I would like to formally register my vote for the large team on ward 16 for next year’s awards.
Though we would all have hoped for a better clinical outcome with Mum I thank everyone for the wonderful care she has received over the past month.
The James Paget University Hospital is a credit to its Board and leadership!
From myself, my wife (Sue Robson) and my sister (Jo Goouch) – THANK YOU
