"Positive experience in orthopaedic unit"

About: Tameside General Hospital / Accident and emergency Tameside General Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as a staff member posting for a carer/relative),

This story has been posted by Healthwatch Tameside on behalf of a member of the public. We have their details and will forward any comments to them. They said…

My mother fell over outside her home and fractured her right hip and wrist. Was attended by paramedics, taken to A & E and admitted to orthopaedic unit. The waiting time in A&e could be improved. Initially to have an operation but it was decided by anaesthetists that due to heart condition it’s too high risk to operate. Is now on bed rest to see if in time the hip and wrist will heal. Although not fully free from pain is now comfortable and settled.

The staff on this unit are professional, caring, reassuring, friendly and have helped my mum maintain her dignity. I have had many dealings with Tameside Hospital over the years but this is truly the first time I feel this has been a positive experience.
