"Visit to A&E"

About: Stoke Mandeville Hospital

I took my sister to A&E after a fall down stairs.

I was appalled at the state of the hospital, at the inability of staff to give any information and the ridiculously long wait in a relatively quiet A&E department.

We arrived at 10pm, waited an hour to be triaged and then had to wait over 2 hours to get the results of the X-ray.

We spent over 4 hours in an A&E where only about 4-5 new patients were arriving per hour.

Our total time with staff was probably about 15 mins in the 4 hours. When we were seen, the room wasn't very clean, with dried on blood (probably) on the floor from another patient.

When we enquired about when we might be seen, the receptionist just said they had no idea, not even info on how many were ahead of us.

Other people there had been waiting even longer.

The wait may have been expected if the department was really busy but it wasn't - it was just being run with a staggering inefficiency.

If I ever have to go to A&E again, I will avoid this hospital at all costs.
