"Living Well with Right Treatment"

About: New Stobhill Hospital (Glasgow) NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde NHS Lanarkshire

(as the patient),

Two years ago I posted about fighting to get the right treatment to help me manage my early menopause. Alot has happened in the last 2 years - and finally I have been given access to the right treatment option for me. I am certain that this would not have happened if it had not been for Patient Opinion and the ability to communicate directly with the people who needed to hear my voice.

I now understand that my GP and even Consultant were equally as frustrated as me at the lack of care available for women such as myself. My medical team Dr Gemmill and Dr Perera have been truly wonderful in supporting me on this journey. I received a telephone call on Friday from a lovely member of the pharmacy team at Wishaw general to advise me that they now have my medication available in Lanarkshire and that my care will be transferred to Dr Willocks at Hairmyers. This is excellent news - I will however miss Dr Perera and his wonderful manner. A true gentleman who truly listens to his patients and has worked with me to optimise my health & well-being.

My only negative is that NHS GG still doesn't appear to understand the benefits of testosterone implants for women like myself as they are currently unavailable. As I have said before - this medication is not only to aid libido. It also aids with fatigue and memory amongst other things. I urge NHS GG to reconsider their thoughts on this medication and look at the importance of replacement for women following hysterectomy and/or ovary removal.

My health & well-being has been the best it has ben since my surgery 6 years ago. I feel "normal". I am so thankful to everyone who has supported me on this journey - to NHS GG and Dr Perera for their care, Dr Gemmill for her on-going support in enabling me to monitor my HRT and now to NHS Lanarkshire for making treatment available for me closer to home.

My journey has had a successful ending and I will continue to raise awareness to help the many other ladies who are struggling to get treatment. NHS Lanarkshire - are we getting a specialist menopause clinic? ? ? ? ? ?

Thank you: )
