"Rude"

About: Warrington Hospital

A friend was admitted to this hospital, I rang up to try and find out whereabout in the hospital she was in, what ward etc, because I weren't sure of visiting hours and wanted to come in to see her, and I had no other means of contacting her. The person on the other end of the phone rudely said that the name meant nothing to them and put the phone down without even trying to help or redirect me to another number to ring instead. I understand hospital policies, but I work in another hospital, and I can assure you that if a patient is not on our ward, we at least try to help the person ringing find their relative/friend and not just rudely brush them off and put the phone down. I'm shocked.

Response from Warrington Hospital

Thank you for your comment. We will look into this and you are right that there is no excuse not to redirect your call and try and help. We'll remind staff of the etiquette we expect when dealing with telephone enquiries to the wards even if the patient is not there.
