My father Ronald Fielding aged 93 was an inpatient on ward 22 at Royal Lancaster Infirmary for just over a week until he died on 11 August. I was very impressed with the care he received. Although he was not going to recover significantly he was kept comfortable and as pain free as possible. He was dressed and sitting out of his room whenever possible. As the family member designated as his nok I found communication with nursing staff was always excellent. They told me how he was and what was going on regarding his condition and his care. My sister and I appreciated discussing his prognosis with his consultant on 2 occasions. On the day he died the Sister contacted me in time to get to the hospital from Manchester. When we all arrived the Sister looked after us both before and after he died. We were given all the time we needed and welcome advice.
On behalf of his family please pass on my thanks and appreciation to all the staff on ward 22 who cared for my dad. Long live the NHS!
