"Achilles tendon surgery"

About: John Radcliffe Hospital

It was the first time having to stay overnight in a hospital and it provided me with an insight into all the good work that goes here. My operation was scheduled for a Thursday afternoon but due to an emergency was cancelled until the next day, frustrating at the time but on hearing the reason totally understandable, there are always people more needy than you. I was taken to the ward and from then on treated well, my small operation went well and was discharged the following afternoon. The main reason for this review is to acknowledge the tremendous work all the staff do in very trying, difficult circumstances. I was on a ward, Trauma 2A, with three other patients, all with considerably worse injuries than mine. From what I witnessed there the staff were attentive, kind and probably most important of all cheerful, which can`t always be easy considering the nature of their work, when you are feeling very down you do not want someone caring for you looking like it is a chore! Just like to say a big thanks to all the surgeon's, nurses and caring staff for making my short stay as comfortable as possible. The NHS always seems to get a bad press and I know from my own work experience that not often enough the good things get said so I hope this helps, keep up the good work and thanks again.

Response from John Radcliffe Hospital

Thank you very much for taking the time to give this lovely feedback. We're glad to hear that your first experience of being an inpatient at the John Radcliffe was a positive one and that you felt the staff you encountered were attentive, kind, and (as you say, most importantly) cheerful! We're sorry to hear that your operation was delayed but glad that you were understanding of the reasoning. Thank you for acknowledging the hard work our staff carry out on a daily basis, as you say they are often dealing with trying circumstances and yet they keep on smiling. We hope you are recovering well from surgery. Your comments will be passed on.
