"Thank you"

About: The Tunbridge Wells Hospital

I was admitted in March due to anorexia nervosa playing havoc with my body. I was in a psychiatric unit but my physical state deteriotated very rapidly and I needed an IV drip. The doctor who saw me in A&E was so lovely, caring and patient. Honestly one of the nicest doctors who tried so hard to be understanding that I've seen in a long time. The doctor was great. I was then readmitted only a couple of days later at 11pm on the Saturday and I was discharged back to the unit on Tuesday. I was in triage for 2hours and I was in a lot of distress. I was in a terribly way physically and a worse state mentally. I was given an IV drip but after ECG, bloods and physical obs done, I was deemed far too poorly to be given just one drip and was admitted immediately to Hedgehog ward. I was so scared, exhausted and in quite a large amount of distress. The lovely person who took me up to the ward in the bed from A&E was very gentle and was very mindful and non judgmental of my distress, not quick to judge which I appreciated greatly. I wasn't seen until 3am by Hedgehog ward but that's okay because I had a drip for several hours. The nurses coaxed me to drink orange juice and water to which I refused but they didn't get short or stroppy. I was sectioned at the time so they were forceful and scary at times but they needed to be. They made me toast even if I couldn't manage it and they were so so lovely. All of the staff, on triage and in a ward, treated me with respect and dignity which I had not gotten from my psychiatric ward. A big big thank you to Pembury for being brilliant and honest with me. I have been in and out of hospitals since I was 5 and not once have I been treated with such huge understanding, patience and care since being admitted to Pembury. I also was hugely grateful for single accommodations and an en suite as I needed my privacy desperately being on 2:1 throughout the day and night. I would like to make a request though to broaden your TV channels a bit! For a teenager, having to watch the news and antique roadshow all day was a nightmare! Keep on doing such a great job

Response from The Tunbridge Wells Hospital

Dear Abbie, thank you so much for taking the time to leave feedback on your experiences at Tunbridge Wells Hospital earlier this year.

We were very pleased to read your kind comments about the care and treatment you received in the Accident and Emergency Department and on Hedgehog Ward.

It's clear from your account that you were very unwell at this time and we were delighted to learn that the staff were so understanding and caring towards you.

Your thanks have been passed on to them.

We were happy to note that you found the single room accommodation so helpful but we appreciate your point about the TV channels.

You may be interested to know that we now have wi-fi available throughout the hospital which should improve the ability for patients to access other sources of entertainment during an inpatient stay.

Please be assured that all your feedback has been shared with the staff.

Kind regards, The PALS Team.
