This is the flagship Specialist Care A and E: be under no illusion, it's clean, staffed and geared up to treat critical cases. My husband made the mistake of using the NHS site to guide us to the nearest appropriate unit for a head injury. After an average wait, I was informed by the clearly bored triage nurse, after the most cursory of inspections, that I was in the wrong hospital and that this was a unit for serious cases such as those patients in cardiac arrest. I've rarely been treated with such contempt and found the incident distressing considering the injury. This hospital/staff member doesn't know exactly what patient type it's set up for: it's an open walk in A and E but doesn't want you to walk in through the doors unless you're critically unwell. Presumably then you wouldn't be able to walk in, need one on the 700 odd car parking spaces, A and E waiting room or as many staff.
