"Poor hospital care in MK hospital for the elderly?"

About: Milton Keynes Hospital

My mother recently spent several weeks in MK hospital, A&E AMU & other wards. Suffering from respiratory problems. From being left alone in a stifling hot room without a fan, to several incidents in the hospital which should never have happened (from pushing by nursing staff and skin injuries). All patients should feel involved and informed about what is happening to them. This was not the case with my mum. She was often given conflicting information by nursing staff about medication and other and was giving up... 'What's the point'? It is a hospital. The staff and doctors should address the patient (not the family) and speak clearly so patient can respond, question, understand. I found there was a general lack of communication between staff and departments and lack of humility human touch to patents. This leads to inefficiency, mistakes, misunderstandings... I should add that of course many staff were helpful and obliging and some of the doctors did take time to explain things, which was appreciated but was this because I was there...? I saw many elderly patients who seemed, 'lost', lonely, misunderstood, and sometimes screaming and shouting at changing times.. One lady several times told me crying 'nobody listens to me'... Oh and I remember one lunch time in MAU.. 3 dinner ladies turning up with a single trolley offering sandwiches and/or soup. The hot soup was served to my mum who had no table, in a small bowl filled up to the top and served with a small plastic coffee spoon...? Really. When is this all going to change. Some very upsetting experiences and also sad for the numbers of good hardworking staff that seem to be overtaken by some inefficient and soulless ones..
