"Staff are over worked and yet they still deliver"

About: University College Hospital

Spent some time on ward following a pretty harrowing operation. The staff were clearly over worked and understaffed, yet I never felt that my medical care suffered in response. The downside was that I never got as much time to discuss my treatment and recovery as I would have liked, but I was given sufficient information. The cleanliness of the ward was appalling. Through no fault of the clinical staff... Sanitary bins over flowing. Wet floors left in the shower. Tubs of urine left randomly in toilets. Things clearly go a bit feral over the weekend. The people who bring around the food and drink are less than pleasant. I don't expect a tap dance with my lunch, but it would be nice not to feel as though the people bringing teas and food are doing you a begrudging favour. The quality of the food could definitely be improved. I'm reasonably confident no one should need to saw through pasta in order to eat it. Grumbles aside, I travel to this hospital from outside of London for all of my medical needs, and there are a lot, mostly because the clinical care and advice I receive is second to none. The staff are good at their jobs. Everything else is tolerable when you keep in mind that NHS funding has been cut quite drastically. Now if only they could get some decent parking nearby...
