About: Ipswich Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I had my daughter at this hospital. Before the birth, everybody couldn't wait to tell me about negative experiences; however, I had a wonderful experience at Ipswich. The staff were attentive, personable and caring. The room was huge which gave me a lot of room to move about as and when I wished. My husband was also considered in the whole experience with tea and coffee making facilities provided. He was also offered a bed when we had been there for over 15 hours in full labour. I went through 4 midwives in total through shift changes over a course of 24 hours. Each was very different, but each was perfect for that moment in time with the right qualities for my needs. I have nothing but thanks and praise for doing such an amazing job. I was never left on my own when there were concerns over my daughters heartbeat slowing down and was treated with respect, being informed at every step of the way regarding their actions and their plan of care for the next hour. I have nothing but praise and thanks for the wonderful staff here.

What could be improved

member of staff overnight on recovery ward was a bit power crazed. Shouted at me for carrying my baby in the hall rather than pushing her in the crib. I can understand now why I wasn't supposed to do it, but the reaction was extreme. She must have asked me 10 times during the night if she could take my daughter to the nursery, even though I kept telling her I wanted my baby with me.
