My GP arranged for me to see the Urologist at Scarborough hospital and the appt was in May, it was an absolute disaster, it could not possibly have gone worse. First of all the consultant got my age wrong by 10 years, as I was undressing for an examination they noticed an abdominal scar and asked what it was from, before I was able to tell them, they took three guesses, all wrong. The consultant used words out of context and appeared to speak in rapid medical jargon. They 'offered' me a biopsy , telling me of the dangers and disadvantages( which were very disturbing) like they were reading a shopping list, when I asked of long term problems arising from this their answer caused me to almost breakdown on the spot, this matter of fact discussion on cancer, something I was totally unprepared for and not expecting was horrendous. They prescribed a medication then forgot to give me it. I was given some forms to take away and fill in , and a container to measure urine in , I was expected to carry this through the hospital undisguised and I was given a booklet on cancer. I left the consulting room distressed. Whilst I am prepared to concede that this was most likely a 'one off' where everything just seemed to go wrong, I would like to suggest that in future patients being given a urine container at least be given a paper bag to carry it away with. On a follow up,appt. in June I saw a nursing Sister who managed to undo most of the negativity from this visit, hence the two star review instead of one when it comes to 'recommendation'
"absolute disaster"
