"delays in emergency calls owing to poor addresses"

About: South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / Emergency ambulance

(as a volunteer/advocate),

a youngster was thought might be suffering from the disease which can be checked by pressing a tumbler over spots to see if they disappeared. Is it meningitis?

At around midnight the parents finally called 999 and an ambulance was promised to take the boy to the RUH. It was over two hours in arriving as the driver had to come up from Minehead and was not familiar with the district. There was difficulty in locating the property owing to confusion over the street name and there was no help from the post code. I am keen on getting the three remaining roads in this village issued with house numbering schemes so that with a clear display at the front of each property the driver would be able to come quickly to the right place.

Hi robinjames

Thank you for taking the time to share this story with us. I hope the youngster concerned is feeling better.

With regards to the length of time it took for an ambulance to arrive with the patient, it is difficult for me to comment specifically as I do not have all the information regarding the emergency phone call and what was said at the time. We would be happy to look into what happened on this occasion if the patient/patient's family would like to understand further. If the patient/patient's family would like us to look into what happened then may I ask that they contact our Patient Experience Team on either SWAST.patientexperience@nhs.net or 01392 261 585.

I think your aims to get the roads in your village appropriately numbered and clear signage displayed is a very good idea. This is especially important in emergency situations as it gets help to those who need it as soon as possible.

Thank you, again, for your detailing this event for us. I hope your efforts to improve signage in the village come to fruition soon.

Kind regards

Sara
