"Autistic grandson treated in A&E"

About: Royal Lancaster Infirmary

My seven year old autistic grandson sustained a nasty cut just above his head. The A&E department was extremely busy when we arrived however, we cannot fault the way that we saw patients being treated. The staff were exceptional in every way. My grandson needed sedating so that his injury could be cleaned and stitched. The staff spoke directly to him and explained everything that would happen. People on the spectrum can find it particularly frightening in situations like this. I was so very impressed with the knowledge and ability of the staff to deal with this as well as the injury he had. My daughter and I would like to thank everybody. Our grandson now has a great pirate story to tell his friends!
