"Maternity Antenatal Clinics...appointment times..."

About: New Cross Hospital

Waiting times for antenatal clinics are appalling! Every appointment that i have attended during my pregnancy has been late. I do appreciate that there will be some delays due to the differing needs of patients however after spending 3 hours there today i would definately not reccommend New Cross maternity services. When i enquired about the reason for the delay, i was told that they were a doctor short and a request had been made for an extra doctor to attend the clinic. I approached a nurse/midwife and expressed concerns about the number of ladies booked in if there were not enough doctors to carry out the appointments within a reasonable timeframe and that the appointment booking system clearly wasnt efficient. They agreed with me totally and offered me the opportunity to speak to a management to express my concerns which i accepted. Nurse came back to me a told me that someone would be out to see me... No one did!! Most of the delays are due to doctors not being confident in making their own decisions and having to keep popping in and out of each others rooms to ask advice. Nurses seem to not enjoy their jobs and walk around the clinic (slowly) and wander in and out of consulting rooms which is all adding to the appointment delays. Scans seem to be able to be carried out in a decent timeframe but the review appointments are just not working. There is one nurse who is always there who wanders around slowly in a world of their own but on friday 19 june at 2pm (going home time) couldnt get out the door quick enough... the fastest i've see them move in 6 months! Poor service to patients!!
