"Hairmyres hospital ward 4 (surgical)"
Posted by Spud2013 (as ),
I arrived at Hairmyres a&e on Monday to a friendly nurse who took my obs and provided me with analgesia as I was in a lot of pain. After been told there were no beds I was sent back to the waiting room where I had lean against the wall as I was in agony.
After a lengthy wait I was then sent to ward 4 in which I was out in a four bedded bay with all men so had to have curtains round bed at all times. No nurse came to see me at any point. A student came (who was excellent) and took details etc and was very friendly and assured me that I would be moved out of that bay.
6 hours went past and I still didn't have a name band. I was then assessed by a junior doctor who said I would need an X-ray. I was then moved to a different bay with female this time. I was on strong pain killers and was in a lot of pain, I got my night time pain killers 4 hours late I told the nurses on multiple occasion that I did not feel well, nobody came to see me.
During the following day the nurse looking after the bay I was in showed little interest towards the care she gave me and I asked on numerous occasion for explanations which she failed to give. When providing medication she did not check date of birth or name simply told me to take it.
At 5pm I was told I was moving ward and to pack up my things which I did. I was then told by a very rude member of staff to sit on the visitor chairs while they cleaned my bed for the next patient as I was moving ( I was also told to have my dinner there too). I was happy to do this at first but after waiting 2 hours in the chair in pain you can imagine my anger.
My partner eventually went out and asked if I was moving which nobody knew about and was told I was staying. I then asked for further explanations regarding my care from the nurse which she again failed to give and was very rude in manner. Thankfully once nightshift started a lovely nurse called Jackie sat and explained everything to myself and my partner it only took 5 minutes but made me feel a whole lot better.
I have heard a lot about Hairmyres and gave them the benefit of the doubt but quite frankly unsafe practice was noted on several occasions as well as a lack in patient care and compassion.
