"Nothing. For the first 3 days ..."
About: Princess Alexandra Hospital (Harlow) Princess Alexandra Hospital (Harlow) Harlow CM20 1QX
What I liked
Nothing. For the first 3 days in a row on visiting my elderly bed ridden aunt at the later visiting session we found her lying in a urine soaking wet bed. She was a patient for 36 hours before we reminded staff that her records show that she is allergic to penicillin and she should wear a red bracelet.
We visited tonight (11th April) to find she has lost her lower false teeth that morning, I immediately asked the nursing staff if they were aware of the loss, I was told they had searched the bins and her room ,to no avail, and either later that day or tomorrow they would search her bed. I told them my aunt cannot eat without her false teeth and enquired what happens next, I was told to phone late tomorrow afternoon to find if the bed search had resulted in her teeth being found.
What could be improved
Just put my aunt somewhere where she is going to get the care that an old lady like her deserves in her twi-light years.
Over the last couple of years I have had several of elderly family members in various hospitals around the South East, some have got better some have'nt.
I have never experienced such upset and anger at the way my aunt is not getting care.
Let me give 2 silly examples:-
We find her alarm button on the dresser out of reach.
Staff come in for one reason of another, move her television to one side to get access, complete the task, go out, Ann's left looking at a wall all day until we visit and move her screen back.
