"Paediatric team provided excellent care"

About: Royal Preston Hospital

My son was admitted to the paediatric ward on Monday 11th May at 8pm following referral from GP. I wanted to write and say thank you to all the staff who dealt with him while we were there. I was obviously frightened being in hospital with my young son (7 weeks), but everyone helped me to feel less scared. They were extremely professional, and also caring. I did not get everyone’s names, but during initial admission the nurse practitioner who saw us and the doctor were especially helpful and really put me at ease. During our 3 night stay, the nurses on ward 8 and the health care assistants looked after us really well, answering any questions and fears I had and showed lots of compassion towards us. They welcomed my eldest daughter too and my husband, and were also very supportive of me expressing my milk during the initial 24 hour period when my son was nil by mouth. Although all the staff were lovely, 3 of the nurses really stood out for me. Being in hospital isn’t a great time for anyone, especially when it’s with a baby as I was so worried about him. I was also sad to be separated from my 3 year old and my husband, but the warmth of the staff made it much more bearable. There was another staff member, who also ensured my comfort and that I was fed etc as well as giving me a friendly smile which helped. I don’t recall the health care assistants names, but they were also so kind and helpful. In fact, one saved the day completely by locating a fan for us when the heat in the room got too much. In fact, that would be my only criticism of the ward, the general temperature in the rooms. What really stood out on this ward was the fact that every staff member was positive and friendly, even though they were busy their smiles never left their faces. Thankfully, my son recovered well and we left hospital after 3 days.
