"Staffordshire's Stepping Hill"

I had the misfortune of being sent to this hospital with a fractured wrist. It is way too big and crowded. Don't bother taking a car - you won't get a parking space on site. The "pharmacy" doesn't dispense GP's prescriptions (no, seriously!). I am disabled and there were toys and pushchairs scattered all over the waiting area. In the end, it was easier to move some chairs out of the way.to get to the doctor's room. The A&E seems overloaded with patients. It reminded me of Stepping Hill hospital with the trolleys in the corridor. Yet the hospital is still under construction! Be careful not to touch some of the walls as you will get plaster on your clothes. The WRVS has gone but there is a nice (expensive) coffee shop there and, bizarrely, some sort of fruit and veg market outside the main entrance. I got the impression the hospital was more interested in making money than caring for its patients. Finally, as I was leaving to try and find a real pharmacy for my prescription I ran into a man who had set up camp on the footpath with all his clothes. The policeman who returned me to A&E after he attacked me said he was a patient who had been sectioned but had been let out for a couple of hours. I am unclear why the hospital thought this was a good idea given the fact he had been sectioned for a reason. Nor was it the cleverest idea to give him some money as he had gone straight to the off licence and spent most of the two hours drinking, This alcohol had obviously reacted badly with his medication as he was quite beligerant. Oh, there is also no patient transport service so I ended up walking four miles home with a fractured wrist and a septic knee. I returned home in worse shape than before I went there! !
