"4 months before my 7 month old would be seen!"
About: Grantham & District Hospital Grantham & District Hospital Grantham NG31 8DG
I am not one to normally leave negative reviews about the NHS as it is a blessing, but in this case I am utterly disgusted with the length of time it has taken for my baby son to receive an appointment and feel it is necessary to leave a review. At 12 weeks of age I had noticed my son had issues with involuntary eye movements and focusing. After a trip to the GP he was immediately reffered to Grantham Hospital Opthamology and the case was marked as "urgent". After 7 weeks of waiting with no response and numerous phone calls to the GP receptionists I was informed that according to the hospital admin team my sons case had not even been looked at. After still hearing nothing for over 2 and half months his care was tranferred to the QMC where his case was reviewed and he was seen by a consultant and opthamologist all within 23 days. This all began back in the beginning of February and now, in May, I have just received a letter saying my son can be seen mid June for the first time in Grantham. Over 4 months for an appointment for a case that is urgent on a baby is absolutely disgusting. I understand the strain put on our NHS (due to being a Nurse myself!) but this is not good enough. My son has not only been seen and had numerous tests done at the QMC, but he has also had a full diagnosis, a care plan put into place up until he is 1 and a follow up appointment at the start June for another case review- all before he can even have his intitial review in Grantham. I really hope nobody else experiences the same issue and that something is done on the waiting time for appointments.
