"Misdiagnosed triple fracture"
About: East Surrey Hospital East Surrey Hospital Redhill RH1 5RH
I was run over by a car and ended up in A and E for a sore ankle. I had an X-Ray then started to faint and vomit whilst waiting for the results in reception. We asked for assistance and were told by the receptionist that they did not have the time to help. An hour later they told me I could go home as the X Ray was normal - I was still vomiting - and had not even seen a doctor. We insisted on seeing a doctor but was told it was not possible as I was discharged. Eventually we saw a doctor who did not examine me. I was told to move the ankle a lot and was given a pamphlet. I spent 3 weeks in agony then received a call late afternoon that there was a possible fracture noted on the report - the report sat on the desk of a specialist nurse who Had been on planned leave! After getting another X Ray I went to see a registrar who said it was not broken. I was given a short boot that was too big. With a total lack of confidence I went private for a second opinion. They found clear evidence of a break on the hospital X Rays. All 3 of my main ankle bones were broken. 4 months down track, am still in enormous pain.
