"This is a world class centre for ..."

About: Royal Brompton Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

This is a world class centre for cardiac surgery and it shows. The surgeons and their teams, the preparation, theatres, high-dependency ward, quality of the equipment, the nursing staff, everything is absolutely first class.

What could be improved

The food was just not up to standard. It was edible, in the same way that pub food was edible 30 years ago. Eveything was small chunks of meat drowning in sauce, watery vegetables, and desserts that would be at home alongside a Tesco Value roly-poly. After 2 days of recovery I craved a fresh salad or veg that wasn't overboiled - my wife brought in an M&S cucumber salad and I demolished it! She brought quite a few meals, and the other patients wished they had what I had. (My wife as well as her food.)

The ward could have been cleaner under the beds and in the corners.

Anything else?

Again, the bypass was expertly done and the care before and after was excellent. I'm cycling from London to Paris next spring.
