Cleanliness- we were in two areas of the hospital both feel below standard. A and e waiting area had building work and had constant noise pollution above normal levels. The second area was amu day waiting area this fell way below cleanliness and is unsuitable for putting people in to wait for excessive time like 5 hours. Hospital staff working together- it's hard to gauge this as you don't really know who is treating you and they don't seem to pass on previous history or observations and just want to clear their own beds to keep their targets within guidlines. Dignity and respect- these are the two words that fail southend on their a cute medical unit. Their is no compassion or sympathy show or exercised. Imagine a lady who has suffered damage internally to her leg for the past three years via blood clots and still has them on a regular basis being admitted to their care. Waiting 6 hours from initial investigation with no pain relief to be greeted by a consultant who before introducing themselves as the doctor dealing with their laughs and say well we are just going to chop it off. It wasn't funny the first time they said the supposed joke or the second and third during our brief consultation. The consultant said they had read the notes and if they had they would have seen the wording depression and anxiety over the issue with the leg. The consultant then proceeded to say they were not going to treat the leg as a care plan was in situ and they believed that to be sufficient. It was pointed out that this was the care plan for the last three months and that the problem was still present if not worse. At this point the consultant walked away and we requested a copy of discharge. This was refused and it was commanded that we leave and they would do the discharge paper work next week when they could be bothered. So involvement in decisions is also included in the above transcript. Whilst not wishing to get into arguments of clinical decisions this hospital and specifically two individuals from different departments have fallen short on providing a detailed follow up plan with one avoiding all personal contact although they were the consultant responsible for this perticular care and the other deciding that when someone questions the current treatment will walk away increasing distance and then when continued contact is attempted they attempts to use the increased distance to accuse people of shouting and try's to use this to defer away from the clinical discussion. At no point did any consultation take place to obtain detailed history from the patiants side and no physical examination was taken by the deciding consultant. No observations were taken in form of blood pressure or heart rate and of saturations until moving to amu from accident and emergency 4 hours after triage and these were not checked again during visit even though possible lung and heart issues were present as per history and nature of issue. I welcome dialogue with the hospital but have found they are reluctant to deal
