It is a very late review but one I felt, after reading several other reviews, I should provide. Yes the in-patitent hospital is an old, outdated building that needs refurbishment. However, on my personal experience it was spotlessly clean. I would agree with other reviews that the in-patient food quality, and not the service, is far from adequate. My consultant was, to be frank, absolutely amazing and I couldn't recommend them highly enough. Rather unfortunately I had complications post surgery and my consultant was always on hand, whatever the hour, to visit or telephone to check on my progress. To be honest I think the in-patients hospital's value must lay at manager's doors. Staff were incredibly in short supply. To the point that following my post surgery complications I was admitted to their HDU. Nursing members of staff there were an absolute godsend and completely went out of their way to ensure my safety and emotional well being. They were so short staffed that a certain member of nursing team gave up their holiday and worked a 48 hour shift just to ensure that I was looked after. Again, what I believe is a managerial decision, a lot of what happens is down to cost cutting. Incredibly short staffed where needed. Sparse equipment to cover all patients. When I was in HDU it was vocally known to me that there was only one thermometer between two wards. I truly feel that some of the nursing staff, along with theatre and recovery staff are worth their weight in gold. It's just a shame that they are not recognised and management feel they can cut corners to the detriment of their in-patients and the staff that look after them.
