"Admission to A&E on 8th May 2014"

About: Hillingdon Hospital

On the first anniversary of my admission to your department, I would like to pass on my most heartfelt thanks & gratitude to all those who played their part in saving my life. On this day, having 12 hours to kill while in transit from Toronto to Johannesburg at Heathrow's terminal 5, I experienced sharp chest pains with severe sweating & dry mouth on two occasions. Thanks to a very helpful info booth official & a security officer I was soon loaded into an ambulance where I was put through a number of tests before the decision was taken to drive me to the hospital for further investigation. Once at the hospital, the doctor quickly assessed my situation & everything just kicked into high gear. The treatment I received from each & every member of staff in your department was totally amazing. I was finally diagnosed as having had angina attacks & it was recommended that I should return right back to Toronto but after my urgent pleas to allow me to proceed to South Africa ( I had not seen my daughter for 11 years & had still never seen my two grandsons), the doctor very kindly consented to let me carry on with my journey armed with plenty of appropriate medicines & orders to see a doctor at the first sign of further attacks. Thanks to that medication, I made it through the trip to South Africa & returned back to Toronto in one piece. Within 9 hours of my return however, I was admitted to Emergency in my local hospital and received surgery to bypass 5 arteries which were all more than 70% blocked. Thanks to these fine medical staff & to your wonderful department I am now enjoying a renewed life. Everyone at Hillingdon Hospital A&E, from the ambulance personnel to the receptionist (who kept me in touch with my daughter in RSA & my sister in Norwich) to the tea person to the x-ray technician and the blood technicians, to the nurses and most of all to the doctor who performed diagnosis quickly & efficiently in a calm & friendly manner, can all be extremely proud of yourselves. You are all a credit to your profession & it would certainly be an honour for me to recommend you and your department most highly. I can assure you that you are all still etched in my memory & I will remain forever grateful to all of you for what you did for me on that fateful day one year ago. Thank you so much Hillingdon Hospital A&E!

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide us with this lovely feedback. We are delighted that you were able to continue your journey and visit your family in South Africa and appear to have recovered well from your surgery back in Toronto. It is really pleasing to read that you found all of our staff to be efficient, calm and friendly; we strive to understand how it feels to be a patient admitted as an emergency and aim to meet each patient’s unique needs. We were touched to read that a year on you still remember the small things that our staff did that made a difference to your overall experience. We will ensure that your feedback is shared with the team in the A&E
