"suspected DVT"

About: Milton Keynes Hospital

I am a British retiree who is currently living in Cyprus. I was visiting family in MK arriving on 11th April 2015 after about a week my back was playing up and I had violent pains in my left leg, as I am not one to make a fuss I did nothing about this only took painkillers. My daughters noticed my left leg looked larger than the right and finally persuaded me to visit the drop in centre attached to Milton Keynes General Hospital. The staff were extremely professional and courteous, and treated me with respect. It was decided because of my age ,71 yrs and the fact I was flying back to Cyprus in 48hrs time to do a scan to make sure it was not a DVT they started me on 5 injections just in case and made an appointment for the following day Friday 10th at 1pm. It was explained to the scan dept that I was not a resident of the UK . However later on that day I received a telephone call from the scan dept saying they had double booked and to keep on with the injections and they would see me on Monday 27th ! I told them I was flying out on Saturday 25th, they then phoned me back to say ok come at 1pm as arranged, I was also told to go to another dept first to get a NHS number at 12.15m prior to the scan. On Friday 24th April at 11am I received a phone call to say they would not be able to scan me as I did not have an NHS no. I said that I had been told to go to another dept first to get this no but they said that was not possible . I was then asked if I had my European Health Card I replied that although I had not brought it with me I did have the number to which the reply was that is not good enough! I then received a further phone call 10mins later to tell me to present myself at A&E and let them deal with it . I then said that I did not intend to waste another 4 hrs or more of my time sitting and going through the same procedures I had already gone through either to get the same answer or to get the scan that they could have given me at that time . Your drop in staff are fantastic and I would like you to tell them how pleased I was with my treatment there, however the Main Hospital procedure was appalling and I cannot believe I was treated in this way .Furthermore it states on my paperwork that I can be given an emergency number if I do not have my health card with me, I was not an illegal immigrant I am a fully paid up British Citizen.
