"My first visit to the Renal Clinic - Thursday 16th"

About: Southampton General Hospital

I attended the said clinic, following an unsatisfactory series of blood tests undertaken by my GP. Along with my wife, we were pleasantly received in Reception, who kindly guided us to the correct floor. On arrival at the Renal Clinic, we checked in and were welcomed by a very courteous staff member and they could not have been more helpful. We had arrived a little early, so they assured us that we had about 25 minutes to go back to the reception area for a cup of coffee. On our return, they made a point of collecting us from the main waiting area and took us to a small waiting area outside the consulting room, telling us that we were next in line. After about 10 minutes, were were ushered into a consulting room, where we were greeted by a doctor, who we assumed was a consultant working under our consultant. This doctor made us very welcome and encouraged me to outline the problems as I saw them. The consultation was very thorough and I never felt hurried or that time was at a premium. As such, I was very relaxed and comfortable, and was encouraged to ask questions. I was given another appointment for 6 weeks time, given that we have a 2 week holiday planned before then. I then went to the Phlebotic Unit, where we were at the end of a very long queue, but it progressed quite steadily, so after 15-20 minutes, I was instructed to the first cublcle on the right, where I had eight blood samples taken, but the phlebotomist was so proficient, it was all over in a few minutes. They were also very courteous and friendly. For a 1st visit to the Renal Clinic, I could not have been more pleasantly surprised by my experiences and strangely enough, I am quite looking forward to my next visit, where I am hoping for a positive diagnosis to my problem.

Thank you so much for posting your feedback about your first visit to the Renal Clinic and Phlebotomy service and for the positive comments you make about the whole experience. Staff work hard to make what can be an anxious time for patients as easy and pleasant as is possible and your comments will be shared with the teams involved. It is always a great encouragement for them to receive such feedback, so thank you. We hope that your subsequent visits will go just as well and trust that there is also a positive outcome to your problem.
