On being admitted to the ward I was in a unisex room for my first 2 nights. I was told I had a bladder infection so was placed on I.V antibiotics while more tests where done for other symptoms. I was not given any advice or warning as to what I would be put on. On one occassion, my I.V line had caused bruising and swelling so they said to wait for my next lot of antibiotics until a new I.v had been placed, this happened 13 hours later at 3am in the morning, as being a support worker and having medication training my self this was un-acceptable. During the Doctors rounds I was not spoken to at all, I had everyone speaking over me as if I wasn't there and was not given any oppurtunity to ask questions before they quickly dissapeared. After my I.V antibiotics had finished it took 2 days before they removed my needle despite having asked repeatedly for them to do so. The toilets on the wards were filthy, for 4 days there was no toilet roll!! The nurses on the ward were not aware of my regular medication until 4 days after I had arrived despite me telling the doctors on arrival. There were a few occassions aswell that the nurses would leave the medication trolley unlocked and un attended (which contained meds such as oramorph and controlled drugs) after being made aware of my regular medication which included 'Diclofenac' 3 x daily, I was given them by the nurses when required and on my final day I was told that the NHS have gotten rid of diclofenac for 'health reasons'. I was fitted a surapubic catheter and documentation did not begin of this until 4 days later. It was not checked as it should be (infections/ wound healing). I would like to stress the nurses and HCA's on the ward were lovely people but there was no way enough staff for the demands of the patients. I had pressed my alarm once during the night and awaited 37minutes for a response.
